Summary of Earnings Data from Chaikin Analytics

This article will provide an overview of Earnings Reports within Chaikin Analytics.

 

EPS Data Source:

  • Chaikin Analytics uses earnings information from S&P.
  • We use Normalized EPS, which removes one-time events like the sale of a building to give a true picture of a company's earnings.

Types of Earnings Data from S&P:

  1. Quarterly Earnings Reports:
    • Updated nightly.
    • Include new EPS values for the current quarter and fiscal year.
    • Used for Earnings Surprise Hot Lists, Icons, Alerts, and Chart Header.
  2. Consensus Estimate Revisions:
    • Updated nightly.
    • Include changes to the average Analyst EPS Estimate for the current reporting quarter.
    • Used for Earnings Estimate Icons, Revision Alerts, and Hot Lists.
  3. Company Fundamentals:
    • Updated daily before the market opens.
    • Include current and historical EPS and Estimate data.
    • Used for stock detail in Chart Header, Historical Earnings, and Power Gauge Reports.

Earnings Alerts and Icons:

  • Bullish & Bearish Earnings Surprises:
    • Shown in the Alert Window.
    • Indicate companies with EPS different from analyst estimates.
  • Estimate Revisions:
    • Indicate changes in the consensus earnings estimate.
    • Shown with a green or red "EST" icon.

Earnings Hot Lists:

  • Lists of stocks with recent Earnings Surprises or Estimate Revisions.
  • Updated daily before market opens.
  • Includes an "Upcoming Earnings Ideas" list for stocks reporting earnings this week.

Chart Header:

  • Displays info about a stock’s upcoming and recently reported earnings.
  • Shows details like Report Date, Fiscal Quarter, Consensus Estimate, and Earnings Surprises.
  • Icons and detailed earnings info appear when hovering over the "EPS" icon.

Historical Earnings on Chart:

  • Click the EPS icon to view a company’s past earnings performance and reactions.
  • Green icon indicates a beat, red indicates a miss, and grey indicates meeting expectations.

Power Gauge:

  • Includes five earnings-related factors: Growth, Surprise, Trend, Projected P/E, and Consistency.
  • These factors help identify companies with strong earnings growth and consistency.
  • Scores are displayed as a ‘slider’ from Very Weak to Very Strong.

Screener:

  • Allows filtering by earnings date to find stocks with recent or upcoming reports.
  • Categories include: Today/Yesterday, Next Trading Day, Within the Next Week, Within the Past Week, Within the Next Two Weeks, Within the Next Month.
